Hotel Week NYC Returns For A Third Year with $100 Rates

Hotel Week NYC, a promotion aimed at attracting more visitors to NYC in January, a traditionally slow time for tourism, has managed to one-up itself each year by offering bigger and better hotel deals. That expansion looks set to continue in 2014, when a total of 30 hotels will be offering uncharacteristically low rates for all stays from January 3-9. Both the rates themselves and the selection of hotels are good enough to silence those who complain that high accommodation costs prevent them from traveling to NYC at all.

Case in point? Rooms at the Hotel Americano, an artsy, minimalist boutique hotel in Chelsea, go for around $435 in September. Yes, a pricey hotel, but the design, four dining spaces, and generous range of amenities (in-room iPads, wool slippers) ensure that you're getting more than just 'a bed for the night' when staying here. Now, consider the reduced rate available during the upcoming Hotel Week NYC: $200 a night.

None of the available deals exceed $300, with the majority of them falling into the $100-$200 range, including places like Pod 39, the New York Manhattan Hotel, and The GEM Hotel Chelsea, all of which are available in January for just $100. If you need something a little fancier and more spacious, you can upgrade to the Maritime Hotel, The Jade, or Gansevoort Park Avenue – a few of the city's hottest boutique properties – for just $200 a night.

(The James and Thompson LES are the only two priced at $300, presumably because anything lower would cause the hotel's online booking systems to overheat from all the extra traffic.)

Of course, the downside is that you'd be visiting a half-hibernating, less bustling, and very cold city. So if rooftop bars, outdoor film screenings, and street fairs are at the top of your NYC to-do list, you're better off postponing until summer, or hunting down a discounted rate during springtime. If, however, you don't mind spending your time eating good food, exploring museums, and hanging out at the spa (which many of these hotels offer on-site), then we'd recommend taking full advantage of Hotel Week NYC. You're not likely to find these kinds of rates at these kinds of hotels any other time of year, plus, the hotels will be empty, so there's even the chance you could get upgraded on top of everything else.
