Airport hotels tend to have staid reputations – and with good reason. Runway-side accommodations cater to tourists and business travelers sleeping through long layovers, so the rooms typically reflect that utilitarian vibe and ditch many of the playful amenities offered up elsewhere. 

The Beijing Capital Airport Langham Place (the brand’s second location in Asia), opening today outside of the airport’s new Norman Foster-designed Terminal D, is out to flip all of that around. Besides the 372-room property’s of-the-moment digs (think dark-wood furnishings; bold, mod couches; and airy, loft-like interiors), the hotel is crafting a certifiably hip image. DJs will spin in the lobby; a 24-hour tech lounge will keep travelers wired and fed with constant servings of Wi-Fi, small plates, and cocktails; and the full-service, on-site Chuan Spa kneads out lingering jet lag with body wraps, facials, massages, and hydrotherapy.

Even travelers stuck between flights might want to exit security for a bite, a libation, or just a nap. The hotel’s five restaurants – Fuel, Ming Court, Tokoro, The Place, and Portal – dish everything from dim sum to flame-grilled steaks, while after-hours Fuel turns up the volume with DJs and live music. For daytime exclusive or extended overnight stays, the Day Stay package knocks room rates down to just $86 for 14-hour reservations between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. – a small price to pay for that much-needed post-flight shower and snooze.
