Autumn cruises to New England and Canada offer passengers gorgeous views of vibrant fall foliage, crisp (but pleasant) temperatures, and charming ports of call. Even though the curtain is quickly closing for the 2009 cruise season, there’s still time to snatch a great deal without having to settle for a mediocre itinerary. Our deal hunters found a last-minute 10-night October sailing with inside cabins priced from as low as $499 – and that’s not even including the additional onboard spending credit!

The Norwegian Jewel sets sail from New York City on October 20, and arrives in Boston the following afternoon. Here, passengers can explore the bustling city and visit many historic attractions such as the Old State House. After spending a day at sea, the ship docks in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where guests can shop and learn all about the city’s event-filled past. On day six the Norwegian Jewel sails down the St. Lawrence River and calls on Quebec – an old, beautiful walled city with many places to shop and dine. Before returning to the Big Apple, the ship makes additional stops in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, as well as Sydney, Nova Scotia.
