The Luxury: The historic St. Regis Hotel, one of Vancouver’s oldest properties (it dates from 1913), recently underwent a complete makeover to the tune of $11 million. The result of the renovations: a chic, business-savvy downtown hotel with 65 rooms and suites that showcase contemporary furnishings, neutral tones, and ultramodern conveniences like fl at-screen TVs and Wi-Fi. The hotel makes an excellent base from which to discover Vancouver (and ski at the Whistler Blackcomb resort, a 2-hour drive away) before the crowds descend in 2010 for the next Winter Olympic Games. The Value: To commemorate its transformation, the St. Regis has posted incredibly low rates from $119/night, breakfast included, any day of the week.

The Catch: You’ll need to plan a last-minute trip to maximize what’s left of the Whistler ski season.
