It’s all about timing. To avoid crowds and inflated prices, we recommend the period between high and low seasons when the weather is fine, places are still open and happy to welcome travelers, and you can explore a destination at your own pace. ShermansTravel experts call this magical time and space continuum the Sweet Spot.

When to go to Amazon

Peak Season: July to August

Since foreign visitors outnumber Brazilians in the Amazon, the northern hemisphere’s summer vacation period, July and August, brings a blip in arrivals.

Off Season: December to May

Things get extremely damp during the rainy season, dubbed “winter” by the locals. The Amazon is huge, so the length and timing of the rainy season can vary by region, but in the major cities, Manaus and Belém, it runs roughly from December to May.

Sweet Spot: September to October

The best time for fishing is during the last months of the dry season, generally September and October, when water levels are lower.
