Phnom Penh

The bar scene in Phnom Penh is kicking. Most of the larger nightclubs shut down around 2am, but party animals can usually find a local bar that will stay open just for them. The nightspots in Lakeside and on the riverfront are open pretty much 24/7, though most of the action takes place between 9pm and 2am.

Phnom Penh Nightlife

Broken Bricks

Phnom Penh’s most wild and character-laden bar is run by an Ozzy Osbourne-style English ex-pat. The graffiti-covered establishment, which often operates without electricity, more than makes up for its shortcomings with strong drinks and a friendly atmosphere. Go with a spirit of adventure.

Foreign Correspondents' Club

Boasting grand, colonial-style décor and architectureh, Foreign Correspondents’ Club is a haven for expats. The club contains a restaurant, but the real draw is the pricey cocktail lounge with its wonderful views of the Tonle Sap.

Heart of Darkness

This fashionable, heaving nightclub is popular with rich young Khmers and twenty-something tourists. A large dance-floor and stage sees scantily-clad revelers grinding to mostly R&B, although some pop and dance tunes sneak in. A must for a dancing; a must-avoid if you’re looking to sit down and chat.

Moskito Bar

An Irish ex-pat runs this small, busy bar by the Lakeside. Inside, couches, cable TV, and, come evening, loud music, set the tone. A friendly bar staff serves standard cocktails and beer to a mainly backpacker crowd.

Pontoon Lounge

Dance the night away at this ‘80s, lounge-style nightclub located on a stationary river barge on the Tonle Sap. In between admiring the river views and downing beer and cocktails, the young, international crowd gets down to dance, soul, and chart hits. Wear mosquito repellent.
