It’s all about timing. To avoid crowds and inflated prices, we recommend the period between high and low seasons when the weather is fine, places are still open and happy to welcome travelers, and you can explore a destination at your own pace. ShermansTravel experts call this magical time and space continuum the Sweet Spot.

When to go to Cartagena

Peak Season: December to mid-January; Holy Week (March or April); mid-June to July

Cartegena is Colombia’s most popular tourist city and during the high season, accommodation prices can almost double.

Off Season: May to mid-June; August to November

In this tropical city, the rainy months become absolutely steamy. October and November are the wettest.

Sweet Spot: Mid-January to April

The dry season is a great time to walk the colonial central city, visit the nearby Mud Volcano, or sun on the white sand beaches. Avoid the crowds during Holy Week (March or April – dates change annually).
