Expert Review

Roughly midway down the hill to the sand, beachfront restaurants, and national park, this intimate two-story compound of whitewashed stucco villas feels like Greece. There are three pools scattered around the property, as well as a small spa, but the best feature is the restaurant, El Gato Negro (the black cat) – an open-air, second-floor eatery that draws folks from all over the area for its delicious Mediterranean food. One floor up from the restaurant is Bar Tutú, a rooftop watering hole that’s great for a nightcap under a blanket of stars (late on weekend nights it turns into the city’s most popular gay nightspot, though players from all teams are welcome). The 33 units here vary from doubles to duplex casitas (villas) that sleep up to five people, but all of the digs sport the same white, airy feel, plus high wood-beam ceilings and patios or balconies. A 2-night minimum stay is required during peak season from mid-December through mid-January.
