Expert Review

Little Copenhagen, gateway to Scandinavia, is having something of a cultural moment, from its resurgent design scene to the breathtaking eateries like Noma, Gødt, and others that have made it the epicenter of Nordic culinary innovation.

At ultra-chic Skt. Petri, the concierge can get you last-minute reservations, the minimal (yet comfy) guest rooms have floor-to-ceiling views of the medieval quarter, the Strøget shopping corridor is steps away, and the sleek hotel bar, Bar Rouge, buzzes with a stylish crowd all weekend (light sleepers should book a fifth- or sixth-floor room), while the street level Bistro Blanc is just the place for a light lunch while reading the papers and watching Danes stroll by. And while winters are cold, summers can be steamy, and Skt. Petri has that rarest of Nordic amenities, a/c. Best season for value: winter. 2008 Smart Luxury Award winner

Great Value Alternative: The Avenue Hotel offers simple, affordable rooms (how Scandinavian!).
