Getting to East Africa


Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi (NBO) and, to a lesser extent, Entebbe Airport (EBB) are the main gateways to East Africa. Kigali Airport (KGL) is best reached from Nairobi.


From the U.S., Nairobi can be reached on British Airways via London, SN Brussels via Brussels, Swiss Air via Zurich, KLM via Amsterdam, Air France via Paris, or Emirates Air via Dubai. Entebbe (EBB) can be reached most easily on KLM via Amsterdam. Flying Emirates requires a 12-hour overnight layover in Dubai.

18 hours from New York (JFK) to Nairobi via Amsterdam or London; 9 hours from London (LHR) to Nairobi; 24 hours from Los Angeles to Nairobi via London.
