Expert Review

It took nine years and close to 140 million Euros to make it a reality – and altogether it’s made up of seven buildings, taking up an entire block – but the Regent Grand Hotel seems well worth the wait. Located in a former palace, the Regent’s first French outpost has opened with interiors by Jacques Garcia, known for his elegant melding of classical and contemporary décor. The designer spent time across the Place de la Comédie at the Grand Théatre, soaking up its grandeur before hatching his plans for the hotel. You can see echoes of the opera house in the hallways’ trompe l’oeil wallpaper, printed with images of curtains, and in the giant tassels that hang from drapes in the richly layered rooms. Everything is theatrical, from the silk wallpapers and velvet settees in the rooms to the avant-garde light fixtures and flower arrangements in giant wineglasses by Fabrice Normand, who has a shop off of the lobby. As expected, the service is impeccable – guests here are made to feel like royalty.
