Tikehau Pearl Beach Resort

Address: Motu Tiano

Neighborhood: Tuamotos

Expert Review

A staff member blows a conch shell upon your arrival at this intimate, end-of-the-world resort on a pink-sand atoll that barely sits above sea level. The only way to get here is by boat from the tiny airport on Tikehau, one of the Tuamotu islands, and once you do, you’ll be so relaxed you won’t want to leave. There are just 37 rustic-luxe bungalows, ranging from non-air-conditioned overwater and premium overwater bungalows (there’s usually a breeze, but windows have no screens if insects are an issue for you) to air-conditioned beach bungalows and overwater suites. At 1,001 square feet, the suites are the most spacious and luxurious, with huge bathrooms featuring a soaking tub and separate shower. The sole open-air restaurant, located beneath a soaring thatched roof, serves excellent seafood (shrimp and mango salad, mahi mahi in vanilla sauce), and the small Manea Spa offers a range of 14 treatment techniques. The resort caters mostly to couples, who fill their days with sunning, snorkeling, kayaking, and relaxing.
