Expert Review

When the Ritz-Carlton officially opened in the International Commerce Centre in May 2011 it had already broken three records: It was the site of the highest bar, highest pool, and highest hotel in the world. Situated between the 102nd and 118th floors of the 1,607-foot tower (itself the tallest building in Hong Kong, and fourth-tallest in the world), it also has remarkably spacious and comfortable rooms. Even the smallest of the Ritz-Carlton’s 312 rooms starts at 540 square feet, and comes with a 42-inch LCD TV, Blu-ray DVD player, Nespresso coffee maker, 400-thread-count linens, and marble bathroom with separate stall and deep-soaking tub. The wide and uninterrupted views of Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, or the New Territories should be considered an additional amenity, unless that gives you vertigo. Upgrade to a Club Level room, and the linens automatically jump to 600-thread count. You’ll also have access to the 24-hour 116th-floor Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge, where food and beverage “presentations” change every four hours around the clock. Also on the 116th-floor, a 9,250-square-foot ESPA spa features 11 treatment rooms (two are suites for couples), with floor-to-ceiling windows and an infinity-edge pool that practically abuts the windows. You’ll also find six restaurants, including ones featuring Cantonese, Italian, and pan-Asian tapas. Some of the best shopping in Hong Kong is in the Elements mall at the ICC’s base.
