Expert Review

On a good-size downtown street, just a block or so south of the pedestrian shopping thoroughfare Via Garibaldi as well as historic Piazza Castello with its royal palaces, this Anfossi-family-run charmer housed on the third and fourth floors of an imposing palazzo has been a hostelry for the upper crust since it was built in the late-19th century. Today it retains the look and feel of that era's Art Nouveau style, complete with ornate chandeliers, etched-glass windows, period furniture, and even an old- fashioned cage elevator. Its 34 rooms are similarly imposing and fairly spacious, with high doors and ceilings, wood-parquet floors, comfy beds, and nicely renovated baths to complement period touches like elaborate gilt mirrors, globe lamps and old-fashioned dressers. Ask for one of the rear-facing quarters, both because they have balconies and because the street out front isn’t exactly one of Turin's quietest.
