Expert Review

This intimate four-star property is perfectly located in the central but non-touristy neighborhood of Monti, situated at the bottom of a hilly cobbled street, just steps from Rome's famed Forum. A former 18th-century convent, the Hotel Forum is bedecked with classic furnishings like velvet-clad chairs, cream-colored walls, baroque mirror frames, and dark-wood tables. The 80 rooms are only moderately comfortable (although the satellite TV is an added perk), but the Hotel Forum lures regulars with its views of the real Forum, which looks especially striking at night (hint: ask for a room in the front of the building). The rooftop garden restaurant offers pricey food with a priceless view over antique Rome.
