Expert Review

Built in 1976, this spellbinding little camp enchants with its intimate setting at the heart of Masai Mara. Getting to Little Governors’ is an adventure in itself – guests first cross the Mara River by boat and then walk through the forest escorted by armed guards (in case any wild animals should be roaming nearby). Tucked away amongst the trees, the camp’s 17 cozy tents each come on a wooden platform with a veranda offering direct views of wildlife. While it’s great year-round, the most amazing time to be here is from July to October, as the camp sits right on the path of the wildebeest migration. Creature comforts and perks include hot water all day in the en-suite bathrooms, complimentary laundry daily, and coffee and tea served with your wake-up call. Guests enjoy their meals outdoors during the day and in the candlelit dining tent after dark. At night, the flickering lights in the forest – lighting is by lanterns and candlelight only – make the camp a spectacular sight. The most romantic and secluded is tent #17, ideal for honeymooners.
