It’s all about timing. To avoid crowds and inflated prices, we recommend the period between high and low seasons when the weather is fine, places are still open and happy to welcome travelers, and you can explore a destination at your own pace. ShermansTravel experts call this magical time and space continuum the Sweet Spot.

When to go to Laos

Peak Season: November to March; August

Cool nights and warm afternoons (with temperatures averaging 86 degrees) make this the perfect time to visit Laos. Luang Prabang, in particular, gets very crowded, so be sure to book flights, hotels, and transportation well in advance.

Off Season: June to October

The lack of crowds in Luang Prabang makes time spent here more pleasant, despite high temperatures that can reach 97 degrees and frequent heavy downpours throughout the country. Monsoon season lasts from early May through October. Bargain room prices are available.

Sweet Spot: April to May

With the exception of the Laos New Year in mid-April, you’ll encounter few other visitors during this hot season. Hotel prices drop after New Year, but the sun can be ferocious with temperatures reaching 104 degrees and you may have to retreat to the comfort of your air-conditioned room for a siesta. It can also be very dry and dusty.
