Expert Review

Set in the business district of Santa Fe in the southeast of the city – a posh enclave away from the bustle of the city center with an up-and-coming restaurant scene – the glass-walled Westin opened in August 2010. Its 259 rooms come equipped with all the plush amenities you’d expect from the brand: Heavenly Beds, flat-screen TVs, and White Tea by Westin bath products. Be sure to request a room with views facing the valley with downtown Mexico City in the distance. Lobby-level Pinzimini restaurant serves up Italian and Mexican cuisine emphasizing healthy dishes like egg-white frittatas and salmon carpaccio from the SuperFoodsRx menu. The 11th-floor spa comprises seven treatment rooms, a fitness center, and juice bar, while a counter-current pool and Jacuzzi are located on an adjoining open-air terrace. Through a special program with New Balance, guests can borrow exercise clothes, and the concierge can suggest routes for your workout; guests should feel safe jogging in Santa Fe during the day. The hotel is a bit of a ride from Mexico City’s Benito Juarez airport (especially when there’s traffic, which there always is); nearby Toluca Airport, with direct flights from Fort Lauderdale and Houston, may be a better option.
