Playa del Carmen
It’s all about timing. To avoid crowds and inflated prices, we recommend the period between high and low seasons when the weather is fine, places are still open and happy to welcome travelers, and you can explore a destination at your own pace. ShermansTravel experts call this magical time and space continuum the Sweet Spot.
When to go to Playa del Carmen
Peak Season: October to MarchTemperatures are mild, hovering around 65-70 degrees, and rain is rare. Room rates soar during the holiday season from December 15 through January 1.
Off Season: July to AugustThese hurricane-vulnerable, hot and humid summer months can bring brief showers or several days of intense rain. Most hotels run specials, although there is no change in the rack rates. The heat, humidity, and mosquitoes can become oppressive inland, but the coast is always pleasant.
Sweet Spot: September; April and MayThe resorts and ruins are relatively void of Americans at the tail end of hurricane season in September, although you’ll find vacationing Europeans. You may find some real deals during this period, so check with the hotels. With the exception of Easter week and the Spring Solstice when Mexicans flock to the beach, April and May are also lightly traveled, making deals easier to come by. Balmy temperatures also make Playa del Carmen one of our Top 10 Quick Spring Getaways.
