St. Petersburg

iStock International
Gone are the days of endless queuing for even the most basic items – modern St. Petersburg offers a wide selection of shopping opportunities. Eschew sky-high prices for international labels (Armani, Gucci, even Levis) in favor of local specialties, like porcelain. (Warning: Do not try to export antiques, often defined as any item made before 1960, or risk arrest, detainment).

Imperial Porcelain Factory

Founded in 1744, IPM – also known as Lomonosov Porcelain – once produced china for the tsars. Of the factory’s seven St. Petersburg stores, we recommend the factory outlet near the Lomonosovskaya Metro.
