As cruise lines anticipate welcoming guests back aboard — on select ships in limited regions with enhanced health protocols — travelers looking to cruise this fall do have a few options. Tahiti

Cruising in Tahiti will resume in late July. All visitors are required to present proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of boarding their flight to Papeete. Paul Gauguin Cruises’ 332-passenger Paul Gauguin will sail its 10-night Society Islands and Tuamotus itinerary on Aug 22. Afterward, the cruise line will resume its scheduled 7- to 14-night Tahiti, French Polynesia, and South Pacific sailings.

Wind Spirit in Tahiti

Tahiti

 Originally set for an October launch, Windstar Cruises’ 148-passenger Wind Spirit will now resume sailing its scheduled seven-night itineraries through Tahiti and the Society Islands in January 2021. The itinerary visits Moorea, Bora Bora, Huahine, Raiatea, and Tahaa. The ship also offers a 10-night Tahiti and Tuamotu Islands itinerary, which includes ports of call in Rangiroa and Fakarava.

The Galapagos Islands are a go! Silversea’s elegant, brand-new, 100-guest Silver Origin is scheduled to set sail in November. The ship, which was built and designed specifically for the Galapagos, is the cruise line's most environmentally conscious vessel to date. It also features a team of Ecuadorian expert guides, along with all-suite accommodations. The ship will offer seven-night itineraries between San Cristobal and Baltra (and vice versa).

Here, visitors can admire the city's incredible neoclassical architecture, stroll through the magnificent Malecón 2000, and visit Parque Seminario, which is home to dozens of iguanas. We recommend staying at Hotel del Parque, a luxury boutique property housed in a restored 19th-century era church.

Opt for Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park for captivating peaks and glacial lakes. When it comes to accommodations, consider a stay at the 49-room Explora Patagonia. Alternatively, explore Argentina’s Los Glaciares National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), which is home to the Perito Moreno glacier along with the towering Mount Fitz Roy. Alaska

Update: UnCruise Adventures has paused all Alaska Sailings

Because it operates small ships and isn't covered by the CDC’s no-sail order or Canada’s cruise ban until October 31, UnCruise Adventures will resume its Alaska cruises on August 1. The cruise line is offering two itineraries (both bookable through late September; one round-trip from Juneau, and the other from Juneau to Ketchikan) aboard 60-passenger Wilderness Adventurer

Update: UnCruise Adventures has paused all Alaska Sailings.

Because it operates small ships (under 250 guests) and isn’t covered by the CDC’s no-sail order or Canada’s cruise ban until October 31, UnCruise Adventures will resume its Alaska cruises on August 1. The cruise line is offering two itineraries — both bookable through late September: One round-trip from Juneau, and the other from Juneau to Ketchikan — aboard 60-passenger Wilderness Adventurer.

Here, you can enjoy a stay at the Henry Howard Hotel, which is set in a historic mansion.

Most members of the Cruise Line Industry Association (CLIA) have suspended sailings from U.S. ports through October 31 and expect to return to the Caribbean from Florida on a limited basis and with reduced guest capacity in November. (Check individual cruise line websites for details.) Virgin Voyages, for example, will start its inaugural season from Miami on the new Scarlet Lady on October 16.
