Disney Cruise Line has added even more family-friendly spaces to its newest ship — Disney Fantasy, including Marvel and "Star Wars" play areas, plus an ice cream shop and a Tiffany & Co. boutique. We hopped on board a recent sailing to find out what you can expect from each of the new spaces.

Marvel Super Hero Academy

In addition to a "water coaster," a splash park, and plenty of classic Disney characters roaming the halls, the ship now has a revamped Oceaneer Club, the kids-only play space for children age 3 to 12. Of the separate themed areas within the club, there's now a Marvel Super Hero Academy, similar to those already on Disney Wonder and Disney Magic. Except instead of Captain America, kids can meet Doctor Strange (who is making his debut on Disney Cruise Line) and Thor, as well as play games that center on the mystic arts.

When kids enter the room, lined with mysterious Marvel relics and spell books, they can learn to use a Sling Ring (a mystical object that allows them to open a portal to another dimension), interact with a digital "gateway" that takes them to different worlds, and learn to recite gateway code from a giant spell book. There's also a video game here — Dark Dimension Defense — that's exclusive to Disney Fantasy. And when Thor comes around, kids can help him defeat his nemesis Loki and earn badges and medals for their achievements.

Meeting Star Wars' BB8

"Star Wars" Command Post

Also new to the Oceaneer Club is a separate “Star Wars” Command Post where kids can interact with holographic projections of ships, including the Millennium Falcon (there's also one on Disney Dream) and the Death Star. They can also maneuver a ship through five worlds and shoot lasers at bad guys at several flight simulator games. And, it just wouldn't be Disney without character appearances from the heroes of the saga, including Stormtroopers and the lovable robot BB8, who is revealed from behind a moving panel on the wall and responds directly to people in the room.

Sweet on You Ice Cream Shop

There’s also good news for those with a sweet tooth: the line replaced the video arcade next to the family pool on deck 11 with a new ice cream shop called Sweet on You, based on classic Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts. In addition to ice cream, you can also buy macarons, candy, and 20 flavors of house-made gelato. Flavors include classics such as Oreo and hazelnut, plus playful options such as Captain Crunch and Candy Explosion, which is blue and filled with Nerds.

Tiffany & Co.

Tiffany & Co. Boutique

And, for the first time on a Disney Cruise Line ship, there's now a Tiffany & Co. shop. Walking into the store (which greets you with a giant image of Audrey Hepburn from "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and black-and-white photos of the New York City skyline), was enough to put stars in our eyes. There aren't any exclusive Disney Cruise Line items for purchase, or any Disney branded jewelry in the store. Instead you'll find classic Tiffany items, including the Tiffany T collection as well as its signature diamond jewelry and engagement rings. Our favorite feature: the store's "drop-a-hint" mailbox, where you can write down the names of pieces you've been eyeing and have the note delivered to your stateroom to give your guest a gentle nudge to buy it for you.
