Hood River, Oregon

Hood River is a picturesque little town that boasts Mount Hood, the state’s highest peak at 11,250 feet, as its backdrop. It’s nestled in the Columbia River Gorge and features a temperate rainforest to the west and a steppe desert to the east. Outdoor enthusiasts love it here, as popular pastimes include windsurfing, kiteboarding, hiking, and rock climbing.

Little ones will love the apple and pear orchards and pumpkin patches, while older kids might enjoy waterfall hikes in Columbia River Gorge and accompanying you to the area’s many vineyards and breweries, which usually have great food and lively music. Don’t miss the Mount Hood Railroad, a historic train that’ll take you across some of Oregon’s most gorgeous scenery. Special holiday rides, like the Edgar Allan Poe-inspired Halloween ride, are especially magical.
