While 2020 promised a gleaming lineup of new cruise ships, ranging from small luxury vessels to massive megaships, the global Covid-19 pandemic put most inaugurals on hold. Here’s peek inside 2020’s new ships and the dates they are now expected to sail.

Regent Seven Seas Splendor

Regent Seven Seas Splendor had her christening in Miami in late February and sailed through the Panama Canal before Regent’s itineraries were paused in early March. The 750-passenger luxury ship is now scheduled to resume cruising in January 21 on 8-to-12-night roundtrip itineraries from Miami to the Caribbean.

The sister ship to Seven Seas Explorer, Seven Seas Splendor offers all-suite balcony accommodations ranging from 307 square feet to 4,443 square feet. The latter is the Regent Suite featuring an elegant dining room, a $200,000 Hästens Vividus bed, and its own private spa with sauna, steam room, and jetted tub. The ship has eight restaurants plus a Culinary Arts Kitchen offering 16 classes.

Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady

The first ship in the Virgin Voyages’ fleet, Scarlet Lady debuted in Southampton, England in late February, but all itineraries were paused after her transatlantic voyage to Miami. The wait, however, will soon be over as 2,770-passenger, adults-only Scarlet Lady is set to begin 4- and 5-night “soft opening” itineraries to Riviera Maya, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas in January 2021.

The Ritz-Carlton Evrima

Custom-built 298-guest luxury yacht Evrima, the first ship in the new The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, will now debut in April 2021 with sailings in the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Greek Isles through August 2021, followed by Canada/New England and the Caribbean. Evrima offers all-inclusive pricing, a signature restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Sven Elverfeld, and elegant outdoor deck areas.

The newest Princess ship features a dozen-plus restaurants, including Crafted by Curtis Stone, as well as two deep-tank pools linked by shallow seating and an infinity-style Wakeview Pool.

An identical twin to 2019’s MS Roald Amundsen, the 530-passenger MS Fridtjof Nansen is Norway-based Hurtigruten’s newest ship in its expedition fleet designed to explore remote polar regions. Originally slated for an April 2020 launch, it will now resume itineraries in April 2021 with itineraries to the Azores, the British Isles, Iceland and Greenland.

An identical twin to 2019’s MS Roald Amundsen, the 530-passenger MS Fridtjof Nansen is Norway-based Hurtigruten’s newest ship in its expedition fleet designed to explore remote polar regions. Originally slated for an April 2020 launch, it will now resume itineraries in April 2021 with itineraries to the Azores, the British Isles, Iceland and Greenland.

The revolutionary ship, which also features new twists on entertainment, is now set for 7-night sailings to Mexico, Key West, and Grand Cayman or Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and St. Kitts from Fort Lauderdale in January 2021.

The ship was originally scheduled for a November 2020 inaugural.

Named for Carnival’s first ship from the 1970s, it will feature six exuberantly themed Zones for eating, drinking, and onboard fun, as well as staterooms with updated contemporary décor.
