Go to Birmingham, not London

London is one of the busiest cities in the world, particularly following the pandemic pause. Travelers interested in British culture and history can find it farther north in Birmingham, a vibrant, ever-evolving city known for its Industrial Revolution-era landmarks and network of canals. Although the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is closed until 2024, the Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum and Soho House Museum (which reopens on June 1, 2023) are equally great. The Jewellery Quarter itself is an essential experience, as is Cadbury World, a chocolate-based theme park. For a dose of nature, head to Sheldon Country Park or the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. In terms of accommodations, we recommend booking a room at The Edgbaston, a 20-room boutique hotel with a cool cocktail lounge.
