Sweden Itineraries

Long Weekend

If you have never been to Stockholm, spend at least 2 days there exploring the city. From there, head over to Öland, a major vacation spot for Swedes, for your final 2 days. Daily Daily Silverlinjen buses take you from Stockholm to scenic Öland in 6 to 7 hours (www.olandsturist.se/en).

One Week

The best way to see Sweden in one week is aboard a Scantour steamship (the country’s waterways provide some of the best scenery). The ship departs from Stockholm and winds its way to Gothenburg in 7 days, stopping by fishermen’s villages, castle ruins, and picturesque lakes en route (www.scantours.com). If you prefer to stay on terra firma, rent a car in Stockholm and spend your week driving along the high coast to Luleå – capital of Swedish Lapland. Drive about 2 hours a day, stopping in small towns along the way.

Two Weeks

Pick up a rental car and Stockholm and head out along the spectacular high coastline. Drive along the High Coast to Luleå – capital of Swedish Lapland. Distribute the 12-hour journey over 6 days, driving 2 hours per day and stopping along small towns along the way. Spend 3 days exploring Luleå before heading to Kiruna for 2 days. From there, make day trips to go on an elk safari, visit a reindeer farm, and explore the nature reserve areas of Laponia.
