Getting to Zanzibar

Zanzibar International (ZNZ) near Stone Town is the area’s hub, handling several international flights plus domestic flights from the mainland. Pemba's only airfield, Karume (PMA), near Chake Chake town, operates flights from Zanzibar and the mainland.

Most flights connect via Europe, and then East Africa. Kenya Airways connects from Nairobi; Coastal Aviation, ZanAir and Air Tanzania connect from Dar es Salaam. Direct to Zanzibar: try Ethiopian Airlines via London or charters from Italy and Germany.

Flight Times

New York to East Africa takes 15-16 hours, with another hour from Nairobi or 15 minutes from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar (it’s another 25 minutes from there to Pemba). From Los Angeles, add five hours to total time from New York.
