Expert Review

Anyone who takes diving seriously should consider a stay at Bohio Dive Resort on Grand Turk. Mile-long Pillory Beach, on which Bohio sits, is the prettiest on the island, but you’ll come there for what’s underwater: breathtaking coral and copious varieties and quantities of fish at the two-dozen dive sites along Grand Turk Wall, which conveniently starts just 300 yards from the resort. Here you’ll find swim-through trenches, giant mantas, stingrays, dolphins, snappers, jacks, groupers, and turtles. When you’re not diving, you can also explore the weathered colonial buildings of Cockburn Town, the historic and political center of Turks and Caicos. There’s a fascinating national museum, but you’re likely to be even more charmed by the island’s massive salt ponds and wild donkeys. In whale-watching season, Bohio runs excursions to observe the humpbacks pass by the island. Other activities include horseback riding, fishing, kayaking, and a freshwater swimming pool.
