Expert Review

A neo-colonial resort crafted from coral stone and embraced by the powdery white sands of Grace Bay Beach, The Regent Palms is a mere 90-minute flight from Miami, but might as well be a whole world away. All 72 suites in this $95-million resort (opened winter 2005) are incredibly spacious, featuring dining areas, private verandas, mahogany four-poster beds, Nespresso machines, and floor-to-ceiling vistas of the clear blue sea. Tranquil, torch-lit reflecting pools envelop the award-winning spa, which spreads across more than an acre's worth of meditation areas, including a lush garden filled with date palms and a cluster of intimate treatment cottages for indulging in the 25,000-square-foot spa's unique, island-inspired "Zareeba" hot steam treatment, which utilizes a boiling, cast iron pot-full of indigenous herbs. (Also try the signature Mother of Pearl Exfoliation treatment, which uses crushed conch shells to revitalize and soften the skin.) Hobie Cats, snorkel gear, and kayaks are free for guest use, though you may not want to leave the $1.8-million infinity pool, with rotating sunpods and a hot tub "island." Sunbathers can enjoy sorbet, aromatherapy mists, and iPods while munching on fresh ceviche with plantains on a pool banquette in the water.
