Liverpool Money-Saving Tips

Where’s Summer?

No matter when you’re traveling, pack for all seasons. Britain’s summers are notoriously rain-sodden, shivery affairs, so it pays to bring that coat and umbrella.

Soccer Frenzy

Both Liverpool and Everton have significant numbers of out-of-town supporters, including many from Ireland. When there’s a game on hotel rooms can be booked solid, even on a freezing February evening, so book all trips, regardless of season, at least three months in advance.

Learn the Lingo

The Scouse dialect is one of the UK’s richest, but a nightmare for the uninitiated. Wikipedia can acquaint you with a few basic tongue-twisting phrases like Wa' ay yous wait'n fe? (What are you waiting for?).

Butt Out

England is now smoke-free in public places (pubs, bars, restaurants, theatres, sports stadiums, etc.), so you’ll have to huddle on sidewalks and in doorways with all the other die-hard chuggers.

Weekend Drinking

Britain has a serious binge-drinking culture, especially on weekends, so watch out for groups of drunken young men – they’re not likely to harass visitors, but give them a wide berth or risk getting caught in the middle of a fight.
