Expert Review

When golf great Jack Nicklaus called Pebble Beach's fairways along the rocky Monterey Coast "possibly the best in the world," he wasn't exaggerating. The legendary course, built in 1919, has undergone a recent decade-long conditioning project - led by Nicklaus's former rival, Arnold Palmer - just in time to host the U.S. Open tournament for the fifth time in June 2010. The resort area's other assets, strewn across three distinct lodges (including the Inn at Spanish Bay, Casa Palermo, and Lodge at Pebble Beach), aren't too shabby either: woodburning fireplaces, cozy cottages, and more than a dozen dining options.
