Expert Review

A multi-million dollar renovation helmed by hip designer Dodd Mitchell put new life into the aging 1920s grande dame. This was the place Marilyn Monroe called home and where the first Academy Awards were held. Vintage reminders of the glory days remain: Original woodwork, opulent chandeliers, a Spanish fountain, and the famous staircase that Shirley Temple danced on. Modernized design and swish leather couches in the lobby give the hotel fresh appeal. The legendary Teddy's Bar is still a Hollywood hotspot, known to attract stars across the generations, from Leonardo DiCaprio to Ron Howard. The 240 rooms in the tower block are modern with warm chocolate hues and TV's playing live feeds of Hollywood Boulevard, which often give guests front-seat access to red-carpet events taking place on the street. The 60 poolside cabana suites which are reminiscent of 30s-style wooden bungalows have their own private patios for sunbathing.
