Expert Review

If you’re coming to L.A. to see and be seen, the Mondrian is for you. Originally designed by Philippe Starck, the hotel was recently revamped by designer Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz after his successful work on the Mondrian Scottsdale. Noriega-Ortiz kept Starck signatures like the massive mahogany doors at the entrance and added new surrealist touches to complement the hotel’s oversize flowerpots and in-door Lucite loveseat swing. From the hotel’s trendy Skybar to the Latin/Asian fusion restaurant Asia de Cuba to the Agua Spa, you don’t even need to leave the hotel to enjoy some of the city’s hottest spots. The rooms’ décor – white bedding and upholstery, a camelback headboard trimmed with a black frame, honey-colored sustainable bamboo floors – is modern and memorable. Every room features floor-to-ceiling windows with views of Sunset Boulevard or Downtown L.A.
