It’s all about timing. To avoid crowds and inflated prices, we recommend the period between high and low seasons when the weather is fine, places are still open and happy to welcome travelers, and you can explore a destination at your own pace. ShermansTravel experts call this magical time and space continuum the Sweet Spot.

When to go to Mammoth

Peak Season: November to April

From late November to mid-April the entire mountain is open for snowboarding and skiing.  Winter temperatures range from the 20s to the 40s.

Off Season: September and October

September and October, before the snow falls and temperatures drop, are good times to beat the crowds, lodge for less (expect about 6 to 12 percent off rack rates), and enjoy the five lakes and outdoor activities like hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and fishing.  Temperatures hover around in the 70s.

Sweet Spot: May and June

Late spring and early summer offer warmer weather, soft powder, and more skiable slopes than most major ski areas at this time of year. Plus, crowds are at a minimum and deals on lodging and lift tickets can be had.
