Expert Review

The Fireside Inn is a combination bed-and-breakfast and hostel. It sits, in its Victorian elegance, at the corner of French Street, in the heart of the Breckenridge historic district. One of the owners is a tour guide, and can tell you everything you want to know about Breckenridge history. The Fireside Inn oozes charm: There’s a swing, composed of skis, in the front garden, and the seven rooms and suites feature floral wallpaper with matching bedspreads and four-poster beds. The owners, true to their British heritage, serve late afternoon high tea, after which guests can luxuriate in the hot tub. The dormitory offers bunk bed-style budget lodging. Dormitory guests have a microwave and refrigerator for preparing their own meals. While the Fireside Inn is about a quarter mile from the mountain, the free shuttle bus stops in front of its door. The inn also sits across the street from the historic Father Dyer Church. Before building his church, Dyer was one of the 19th-century skiing mail carriers. The church sometimes features evening chamber music concerts.
