Savannah Money-Saving Tips

Watch those heels

The romance of Savannah’s cobblestone streets is lost as quickly as your heels if you try to wear stilettos on River Street. Pack comfortable shoes for your treks along the riverwalk.

Slow down

From talking to driving and eating, Savannahians do things a little slower than everyone else does. Nicknamed Slow-vannah, expect a more relaxed pace when you come to town.

Read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

John Berendt’s 1994 bestseller put Savannah on the map. The nonfiction novel will set the pace for your trip as it depicts the Southern Gothic culture and society life that is uniquely and eccentrically Savannahian.

Wear green

Arguably the best occasion to venture to Savannah is for the St. Patrick’s Day parade and festivities. Be sure to wear green or you’re asking for a pinch!

Bull Street compass

Finding your way around Savannah is easy once you’re familiar with Bull Street. Running north and south, it will be your navigational beacon throughout downtown. Street prefixes change as you cross Bull (i.e. West Bay becomes East Bay).

Open containers

No, we’re not kidding: it’s completely legal for you to walk down the street with a cocktail, provided it’s in a plastic cup. So don’t rush to down that beer before leaving the bar; just ask for a to-go cup!
