Expert Review

This is a smart choice for design-conscious travelers. Located on an attractive block in the business district, the sleek boutique hotel is housed in a Beaux Arts-style building and blends old Southern style with an avant-garde twist. A svelte, dimly lit lobby sets the tone with a cool, wrought-iron motif, hand-made chandeliers, and high ceilings. Off the lobby, the hip Loa Bar has a sultry voodoo vibe with its candlelit setting, Gothic mirrors, and overstuffed settees. All 117 rooms are a subtle homage to N’awlins: black-and-white photos of local artists like Louis Armstrong and Wynton Marsalis hang on the walls and shelves are stocked with books about the city. Units are spacious, in creamy colors, with ceiling fans, tall blond-wood armoires, gossamer curtains, and twisted topiaries. If you fancy the hand-blown glass vases in your room, you can purchase them in the gift shop.
