Expert Review

The newest hotel on the Strip, Cosmo (opened December 2010), as locals call it, strikes a metropolitan mood in the heart of the action. The 2,995-room resort bends the rules of the Vegas casino with a tiny 8.7-acre footprint, an ambitious art program, and high end shopping that doesn’t hinge on the same big name designers. Rooms start at a spacious 620 square feet and come with fresh décor curated by David Rockwell, Japanese soaking tubs (in some rooms), and high-tech controls that make guests the master of their domain. (Some also boast balconies, an amenity almost unheard of in Sin City.) A third floor restaurant hub welcomes new-to-Vegas chefs like José Andrés and Scott Conant, while at mega-club Marquee, the DJ booth is almost always manned by someone of note. And for guests with an ear for something interesting, a sports-book-by-day becomes a concert venue at night, showcasing emerging musical acts with free, multi-night mini-residencies.
