Expert Review

One of the Strip’s last remaining classic casinos, the Trop first opened in 1957, but, with the exception of the interactive Las Vegas Mob Experience, what you’ll find today has little to do with its 50-plus-year history. After 25 years without a significant update, the casino recently underwent a major makeover, completed in spring 2011, to incorporate a South Beach and Miami theme throughout. Clocking in at $180 million, the facelift brought new life to the hotel’s 1,600 rooms, the casino floor, and the restaurants and pool. Hotel rooms and suites now all include 42-inch plasma TVs, 300-thread count linens, and iHome docking stations. In its most significant move to attract a younger clientele, the Tropicana has also brought to Las Vegas the Miami nightlife veteran Nikki Beach, which opened a café in early 2011 and created a massive pool club and attached nightclub, both opened May 2011.
