Expert Review

Opened in 2007, this eight-story stainless steel and glass tower rises tensely over an industrially barren swath of concrete between the lovely neighborhoods of Carroll Gardens and Park Slope (whose excellent bars and restaurants are all just mere minutes away on foot). Expect minimalist, retro-chic décor thanks to hotshot interior designer Andres Escobar – a cool blue and white color scheme with blue-lit mirrors throughout. All 48 rooms are equipped with 42-inch plasma screens, goose-down comforters, and spacious glass rain showers; though the room sizes themselves are on the smallish side, many have balconies from which Lady Liberty and Manhattan’s glittering skyline are visible (just make sure and ask for an even number above the fourth floor to avoid having to stare out at the U-Haul building next door). Manhattan is 30 minutes away on the nearby R and F trains, and both parking and in-room Wi-Fi are free. Ascend to the rooftop restaurant and lounge (renovated in early 2010) for cocktails, continental cuisine, and panoramic views.
