Getting to West Africa


There are direct flights from New York (JFK) to Accra Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Ghana, and Dakar Yoff-Léopold Sédar Senghor International Airport (DKR) in Senegal. For all other West African cities, most travelers from the United States fly via London Heathrow (LHR) or Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG).


Delta Airlines flies nonstop from New York to Accra. South African Airways and United Airlines fly nonstop from New York to Dakar. Royal Air Maroc flies from New York to Abidjan, Accra, Bamako, Dakar, and Nouakchott (all with one stop in Casablanca).

11 hours from New York to Accra; 8-10 hours from New York to Dakar; 13-26 hours from New York to West Africa via Morocco (depending on layover time in Casablanca).
