The motor inn formerly known as the Key Lodge now delivers a boutique-style welcome (though still maintaining a motel feel) where U.S. 1 meets Duval Street. Renovated and renamed the Orchid Key Inn in October 2008, the property embraces its retro-cool, motel essence but transformed the 24 sizable rooms into trendy oases with iPod docks, HD-plasma TVs, free Wi-Fi, mosaic glass-tiled bathrooms, custom-built furniture, and terrazzo floors. The colorful accents, photos, and paintings also take the modern route, successfully dodging the tropical kitsch plaguing many local properties. Brick pathways lead to the heated pool and spa, fronted by the Orchid Bar, which hosts a nightly complimentary happy hour; a light continental breakfast is also included.
