Luxe options abound on the Mexican Riviera, but thankfully they don’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. From hotels where you’ll be treated like royalty to yacht tours that’ll make you feel like a true jet-setter, here are four savvy ways to experience the best of sophisticated Puerto Vallarta without breaking the bank.

Book Hotels in the Off Season

Saving big on the resort town’s luxury accommodations is easier than ever if you book in the off season (approximately March to September). The shoulder season offers pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and lower hotel rates. For example, a night at the recently renovated, luxe Villa Premiere can cost $329 per night (or $516 per night for all-inclusive plan) during the high season. However, if you book in the off season, you'll score savings as low as $173 per night (or $272 per night for the all-inclusive plan).

Take Advantage of Restaurant Week

Puerto Vallarta is home to one of Mexico’s most enticing gastronomic scenes, but dinner at one of its high-end restaurants doesn’t have to end with a hefty check. The city’s annual Restaurant Week, which is held every May for about three weeks, offers diners the opportunity to enjoy special multi-course meals at reduced prices.

More than 40 restaurants participate, including hotspots like the trendy Tintoque and elegant Café des Artistes. Both Mexican and international cuisine can be found during the culinary celebration. Meals range from an affordable $15 to $20.

Pay for Yacht Tours Upfront

If you like to travel in style, look no further than the three-hour private luxury sailings offered by Mike’s Charters & Tours. Their yacht, Acalli, is an ideal option for exploring the Banderas Bay (20 passengers max).

Puerto Vallarta’s Old Town cityscape, the sparkling blue waters of the Pacific, and Los Arcos (giant rock formations in the sea) can all be seen from the comfort of Acalli. On board, you’ll find three bedrooms, a bathroom, and kitchen. Bilingual captain and sailors will navigate you through a relaxing tour of the bay. When you need a break from the water, you can enjoy freshly made guacamole, marlin tacos, and margaritas.

Booking a yacht will never come cheap, but when you plan ahead and pay upfront, you can save as much as $225 when you book with Mike's Charters & Tours. With the discount, a three-hour ride on Acalli with 20 passengers costs $900 ($1125 without the promotion.)

Inquire About Spa Promotions

If you're looking to indulge in some much-needed R&R at the spa, you may be able to score some great deals. Even if there's no advertised promotion, it's worth checking with the property see if the spa is running any promotions on treatments. Offers at other spas can be found for appointments at certain times of day or during certain times of year, so don’t be afraid to inquire with hotel receptionists or spa staff.
