Good news for cruisers who love sun and sand — there’s a new Bahamas port in the works from Carnival Cruise Line. The line has announced plans to build a new cruise port facility on Grand Bahama Island that will be home to a one-mile stretch of beach as well as food, beverage, and shopping outlets.

The new port, which hasn’t been named yet, will be the largest ever purpose-built, resort-style cruise line facility in the Bahamas and have a pier big enough to accommodate two of Carnival’s largest ships at the same time.

If the new port is anything like the company's other private beaches, Princess Cays and Half Moon Cay, you can expect plenty of lounge chairs for soaking up the sun, and water sports equipment for snorkeling and kayaking. Half Moon Cay — which was renovated last year — just got a Lobster Shack and new beach bars on its two-mile beach, and Princess Cays is home to plenty of water toys, and a lookout tower to take it all in.

The new port is subject to environmental studies and permitting before construction, which tends to take years, could begin.
