Panama City is often referred to as the Miami of Central America. Here, high-rise buildings dot the skyline, and there's certainly no shortage of fancy hotels. But we went searching for a boutique-style alternative that embodied the cosmopolitan glitz of the city while offering the warm service that Panamanians are known for. Enter Grace Panama: Panama City’s five-star stunner set smack-dab in the district of Obarrio. This property is the first of Grace Hotels’ boutique brand in Central America and features a well-respected restaurant, a rooftop pool, and rooms are that are modern and sleek. Here, a peek into this premier Panama property.

Best Feature: The rooftop pool is an oasis for the super-hot temps of Panama City. Even better are the insanely clear skyline views. Bring your camera.

The Rooms: Here, 53 rooms and seven suites take on a modern and clean white-on-white design that provides a tranquil escape among the buzzing city. We loved the nightly turndown service, during which a different, beautifully made sweet treat was placed in the room each evening.

The Food: We heard multiple locals singing praises of chef Pedro Masoliver, who helms the 54 East Restaurant on the lobby level of the hotel. This sophisticated eatery turns out fresh-caught seafood -- don't forget to check the daily specials -- as well as a ceviche menu and local specialties like sancocho.

Who Will Love It: The hotel is mixed with business travelers and in-the-know explorers who are seeking sleek boutique-style accommodations. Expect hip young things right alongside suits and ties here.

Who Might Not: Families. While we saw a couple with a young child in the dining room, the hotel may not be ideal for children. A gym? Yes. Playroom? Not so much.

Nearby: The hotel is steps away from the Soho Mall, home to heavy-hitter retail stores like Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Tory Burch, and Gucci. There's even a chic restaurant by famed Parisian macaron-maker Laduree. A short ride away (we used Uber), you'll find Casco Viejo, the old quarter of the city that's chock-full of restaurants, quaint wine bars, shops, and loads of photo opps.

Rates, Deals, and Special Offers: Room rates begin at $140 per night; check out the hotel's social media channels for deals.

Connect: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

Getting There: Fly Copa Airlines into Tocumen Airport. The hotel is a 20-minute ride away.
