Checking In: Cabo's Newest Affordable Boutique Hotel

To make the most of Cabo's newest boutique hotel, El Ganzo, we suggest a minimum four-night stay, for purely practical reasons. To start with, the list of on-site activities is too long to be adequately covered in just one or two nights. From free bike rentals to kayaking in the Sea of Cortez to the full-service spa, the site is equipped with dozens of ways to keep guests entertained without ever having to leave the premises.

Second, the hotel is currently offering a round of value-loaded deals – exclusively for ShermansTravel readers – that each requires a four-night minimum stay. So why short-change yourself?

Golfers will likely gravitate towards the "Golf deal," which entails 4 nights plus one round of golf at nearby Puerto Los Cabos golf course, from $730 per person. Meanwhile, spa lovers can book 4 nights plus one spa treatment for just $672 per person. And, perhaps most appropriate for those who like to get behind the wheel and explore the area guide-free, a "Thrifty deal" promises 4 nights plus a mid-size rental car for a day, for $613 per person. The full list of offerings is listed at the end below.

Perched right on the Puerto Los Cabos marina, twenty minutes from San Jose del Cabo International Airport, the 72-room Hotel El Ganzo draws an eclectic crowd through its rotating lineup of live music performances (Damien Rice, Slash, and Harper Blynn have all played here) and movie nights, its intimate, tiny-fishing-village-by-the-sea vibe, and, of course, those chic rooms, which burst with the same vibrant, creative energy found throughout the rest of the hotel.

Giving off a rustic, homemade feel, each room features all-white decor, offset  by polished concrete floors and reclaimed wooden doors and bed frames. Outside, direct ocean views serve as a dreamy backdrop, and ensure that plenty of natural light filters in. An atmosphere of laid-back luxury is maintained through subtle touches like 400-thread count linens and double-basin marble bathroom fixtures.

On any given night, a tango dance class might be taking place up on the roof (which also contains the hotel's one-of-a-kind infinity pool), or a local band could be setting up to perform in the lobby, or a small crew of suntanned guests might be making their way back across the bay on a panga boat after an afternoon spent lounging at Ganzo de Playa Beach Club (one of Los Cabos' only private swimmable beaches).

Nor does the hotel skimp on dining options. Right off the lobby is the main restaurant, Ganzo Downstairs, a beautiful indoor/outdoor space with hammocks and fire pits interspersed among the tables, and a central bar whipping up frothy pina coladas and other refreshments. The surrounding ocean views won't necessarily make your fettucine al mare or Tlacoyo de pollo taste better – but they certainly won't hurt, either! (Upstairs on the roof, a sushi bar known as Gachoo Sushi Bar is open for lunch and afternoon bites every day of the week.)

Though El Ganzo remains an easy 10-minute cab (or rental car) ride from neighboring San Jose del Cabo, many guests happily forego the town's attractions and spend the duration of their trip within El Ganzo's blissful confines. Alternate between two swimming pools, a bike trail, a neighboring sculpture garden, and a full-service spa, and in no time you'll literally feel the tension melting away. However, should you feel compelled to venture out, the area offers a Dolphin Discovery Center, a charming collection of local art galleries, and expeditions into the nearby mountains.
