In a region deplete of destination resorts, The Carriage House Suites (one of four distinct lodging options at Destination Kohler, the AAA Five Diamond resort on the grounds of Wisconsin’s own Kohler Company in Kohler, WI), is a Midwestern oasis of stately charm and relaxation that will recharge you for days. Signature spa treatments at the Kohler Waters Spa utilizing specially crafted Kohler water fixtures have been attracting an international crowd since 1981. Paired with Kohler’s lush golf courses (two PGA tournament courses) and palate pleasing meals at the onsite Immigrant Room, a AAA Four Diamond restaurant, a weekend away at Destination Kohler is like visiting your good friend’s country mansion -- complete with valet parking.

What’s Hot: The spa’s hydrotherapy treatments are the most exciting and unique services at the Kohler Waters Spa. Lay flat on the heated water bed as six water tiles spray across your body from top to bottom, while a massage therapist incorporates oils and scrubs. Opt for the new bamboo contouring drizzle, which includes a slimming serum and firming cream to help tighten up problem areas ($188 Saturdays, otherwise $168).

Best Feature: The pre-dinner nightly wine and beer toast for Carriage House guests adds a warm touch to the proceedings, as guests have the opportunity to mingle and taste fine pours. The fresh, local cheddar and blocks of parmesan cheese do not disappoint, either.

The Rooms: The Carriage House at Kohler offers six suite categories: from standard accommodations to the Governor’s Suites: king-sized rooms complete with fireplaces and lavish soaking tubs. The real benefit of booking a suite in The Carriage House is the included access to the spa (except on Saturdays, November through April when there’s a minimum purchase of one spa service per person). The suites come standard with top-of-the-line Kohler bath and showers, a wet bar, and posh Frette linens.

The Food and Drink: Pints of local craft beer are flowing at the Horse and Plow gastropub onsite at The American Club. There's a plush couch by the fireplace with a basket of garlic and parmesan fries and cheese curds that quickly disappear. For the more upscale cusine, head across the hall to the AAA Four Diamond restaurant, The Immigrant Room, where an ever-changing menu offers New American cuisine, with highlights from local farms.

Who Will Love It: The couple seeking respite, the active couple that appreciates a world-class golf course, and the mini-mooners.

Who Might Not: The hip, the young. For those seeking the adventurous weekend away, the Kohler Experience may not fit the bill.

Nearby: Make time for the Kohler Design Center, the absorbing museum of Kohler’s history and many game-changing water fixtures, before exploring the Craverie Chocolatier Café at the nearby Shops At Woodlake Kohler -- home of the Kohler Original Recipe Chocolates.

Rates, Deals, and Special Offers: Rooms start at $250 a night.
