Como The Halkin opened in 1991 as the first property within Como Hotels and Resorts. The hotel quickly gained accolades for its boutique feel combined with five-star service and amenities. And, while the 41 rooms and suites have gone through some slight changes over the years, the original design-forward elements and charm remain. Here's our review.

What You Need to Know

The Look

It's All in the Details

The hotel’s Georgian-style façade features weathered bricks, stone, and arching windows. Meanwhile, inside, you'll find a blend of both modern and contemporary design. Shades of blues and sand round out the lobby. In the guest rooms, you’ll find softly-arched ceilings, black marble tile showers, and hardwood veneer paneling. Beds are dressed in luxe white linens, which are accompanied by dark leather, tufted benches.

The Vibe

Everything about The Halkin is meant to feel under-the-radar and low-key, from its location on a quaint street near Buckingham Palace to its dark wood paneled hallways, which make guest rooms feel secluded and, in a way, almost hidden.

Who Will Love It

Guests who want to be soothed by their surroundings and attentive staff will find their zen here. The Halkin is also a great choice for those looking for an authentic, non-cookie-cutter hotel.

Who Might Not

It is, of course, acceptable to talk above a whisper at The Halkin, but the sacred-space vibe may prove a little too quiet for some travelers — especially those with children. (However, the hotel does accommodate kids, in case your little ones are on the quieter side.)

Best Amenity

Each guest is offered a welcome drink of their choice upon arrival, which is a nice way to kick-off the stay. For those seeking relaxation, the hotel offers in-room massage treatments and other spa services from the Shambhala Urban Escape Spa located in their sister hotel, The Metropolitan. Alternatively, you can simply take home some of the spa's body products, which are available for purchase in the mini-bar.

Money Matters

What’s Included

The room rates include wifi and a welcome drink upon arrival.

Fees and Extra Costs You Should Know About

Taxes and fees are included in the room rate. Valet parking is also available for an additional cost.

How to Get a Deal

Like other Como properties, The Halkin often offers an early bird discount of 15% if you book your stay at least one week in advance. This rate is non-refundable and requires full payment at the time of booking. Other deals, promotions, and packages can be found on the hotel's website under the "offers" tab.

Getting There

In The Neighborhood

The hotel is meant to be a retreat from the surrounding bustling city, but, when you’re ready for adventure, there’s a lot to do nearby. The Halkin is located in the posh Belgravia neighborhood and is within walking distance to several great restaurants and shops. Nearby attractions include the Knightsbridge district, Hyde Park, and St. James Park, and Buckingham Palace

Nearest Public Transit and Airports

The Halkin is a three-minute walk from the Hyde Park tube stop. You can also take a train to the hotel from both Heathrow and Gatwick Airports using the Heathrow and Gatwick Express lines. By car, Heathrow is about a half-hour away (around 26 to 36 euros — or $29 to $40 — for an Uber or Lyft ), while Gatwick is approximately a one-hour drive from the hotel (about 50 to 60 euro — or $55 to $66 — for an Uber or Lyft).

The Bottom Line

The Halkin is a rare oasis in the heart of London, and it's an ideal choice for anyone who appreciates serene surroundings.
