Have the Caribbean on your mind? Brilliant Barbados, a new campaign from the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association, essentially shaves 25 percent off your hotel -- with a few extra perks.
For travel between May 9 and December 19 of this year, book a minimum of four nights -- which you want to do anyway, for plenty of time for sunning on the beach and checking out attractions like St. Nicholas Abbey and Harrison’s Cave -- and get the first one free. The only caveat is that you have to make reservations at one of the 40 participating hotels by April 30, using code BB15. But wait, that's not all. Book any of these hotels and you'll get vouchers at check-in for additional discounts at local attractions and restaurants, too.
There's a wide range of accommodations that are a part of this promotion, from apartment-style lodging to resorts packed with eateries and luxury amenities like a spa. If you love cooking with local ingredients while on vacation, Adulo Apartments have full-size kitchens and start from $70-$85 per night in mid-May (and the rates remain that low even in mid-November), before the discount is applied. Similarly, Chateau Blanc, right on the beach along the South Coast, also boasts full-size kitchens with rates from $155.10 per night for a one-bedroom.
Or if you want to celebrate a special occasion with a smart splurge, Coral Reef Club, among the island’s finest hotels, is also participating. The 12-acre, 88-room property along the West Coast has a spa -- earning it a spot in the exclusive Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection -- and breakfast-inclusive rates typically start from $456 in mid-June. So with the promotion, you pay $1,368 for four nights rather than $1,824. Another luxe choice is The Fairmont Royal Pavilion in St. James Parish, with 72 rooms, tennis courts, gardens and daily afternoon tea. Even without the promo, the $539 nightly rates in mid-July rates are a fraction of peak costs (as much as $1,699 per night rates during Christmas week).
There are plenty of mid-range hotels, including Courtyard by Marriott, which has rooms for around $169 per night before the free night kicks in. And if you prefer all-inclusive experiences, rates start from $750 per person per night at Waves Beach Resort and $1,500 per person for seven nights in May at The Club Barbados Resort & Spa (typical rates).
