Here’s a little secret: Construction often yields price breaks at hotels. That's the case this month at the 5-star The Resort at Pedregal in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, which is situated on cliffs overlooking the Sea of Cortez. This resort, which is the #2-ranked hotel in Cabo San Lucas on TripAdvisor, is within walking distance of bars and restaurants in downtown Cabo and the Marina. Through September 30, the rate has been slashed by 65 percent. While construction isn’t affecting guests’ ability to use the resort, the threat of occasional noise prompted the hotel to publish this offer.
The “Eco Update Rate” ($375) includes free WiFi, a margarita upon arrival, a bottle of tequila as an amenity, a snack delivered to the room each afternoon, and a refreshment center stocked with fruit and non-alcoholic beverages. Visitors should know that a trip to the salon and spa (Luna y Mar Spa) won’t happen, unfortunately, as it's shuttered during this time. However, salon services or spa treatments like a facial or massage can be provided in the privacy of your room, a convenience most hotels would charge more for. Here, rooms include a balcony with a private plunge pool, paired with a view of the Pacific Ocean.
In February, the rate at this hotel -- which has just under a hundred rooms -- jumps to more than $1,062 per night. On the resort’s property are two restaurants, the cliffside El Farallon serving catch-of-the-day seafood in a market-style setting and Don Manuel’s, which is open for dinner and serves upscale Mexican dishes prepared with local, organic ingredients. The infinity-edge pool is next to a thatch-hut bar and restaurant called Crudo where sushi is on order. With the savings on the room, splurge on experiences like cooking, mixology, wine, or tequila classes (taught by experts).
